Laura Bache is now a lifetime member of Girl Scouts USA and was a proud Girl Scout from kindergarten through 12th grade. She earned her Gold Award in 2021. Her project was titled "Shattering the Glass Ceiling: Suffrage Strategies to Empower a New Generation."
For her Gold Award Project, Laura nominated the Nugent House to be on the National Register of Historic Places. The listing was approved on July 1, 2020 by the National Park Service. This nomination raises awareness about the ways African American women participated in the suffrage movement. The Nugent Sisters were Black suffragists and activists who lived on S. 6th Street in downtown Louisville and worked to better the lives of Black people both locally and nationally.
Combining her love of theater and history, Laura conducted research from primary sources to write and produce an interactive musical short film about Alice Paul and the suffrage movement. Her virtual program debuted at the Alice Paul Institute in October 2020. In Her Voice, Our Vote, Laura portrays Alice Paul, founder of the National Woman’s Party.
